Graphic Design Final Blog

Overall I greatly enjoyed this class. I learned alot about the programs we used and about myself as an artist. I got exactly what I wanted out of this class, and plan on using the skills I've developed a little more in my future career.
I actually really liked every project that we did in here except for the magazine ad, and the only reason I didn't like it was because I got frustrated with my own drawings and I felt like it wasn't good enough. It didn't help that I got really far behind with the choir thing going on, so had to stay during ninth and after school more than I would've like to in order to catch up with the class.
My favorite project that I did was probably the cereal box. I actually felt like I knew what I was doing for the first time. That was when I started piecing some of the tools together and figured out how to add in that value to keep the whole thing from looking "cheap". I'm very excited for next semester now that I'm feeling alot more confident about the whole thing.
If anything, this class has inspired alot of confidence in myself as an artist and a future designer. I feel a lot more prepared for what I'll face in college and know that it's all uphill from here. No matter how frustrating it may have been at the time, I will always have fond memories of this class.

Graphic Design Blog #7

This was my design for an architecture firm named Emery Architecture. My goal with this logo would be to draw in people who were looking to expand their business or build on a new site. I felt like the extreme darks and lights of the piece would grab the most attention and the image of buildings makes what the firm does clear. I also liked the use of the "E" as a way to incorporate the name into the image. It demonstrates an effective use of space which is part of what architects should do. It's also very simple and to the point, which I think is good given the particular product I am selling.
If there was anything in the piece I would change, it would be the way the design makes the title if the firm seem small, and it almost gets lost in the image. I would also add more detail to the back, blue buildings to make it more clear as to what they are and add a gradient around the "E" to make it seem more like a sunrise.

Graphic Design Blog #6

For this piece, I chose the song, "Lessons Learned" by Matt & Kim. A part in the lyrics in the song goes, "Tape holds things that can not stick and keep leftovers in the fridge. While lessons learned go down the drain, I can't believe everything. And all the bad names gone and the good ones were all wrong." I decided to use this section as the main theme for the image. I used the drain and water representing the lessons learned as mentioned in the song.
I really liked the idea of the design, but I felt like the execution could've been better. I wish I would've added more detail and colors to make the flow of the water more extreme and clearly shown. I feel like this could've improved the feel of the piece.

Graphic Design Blog #5

TM Hollister

Hollister's logo is very effective because of the font and the bird. The font is attention getting and modern. It also gives the impression of a certain amount of edginess. The bird is a simple but modern image which they put most of their items of clothing somewhere. Whenever you see that bird, you think Hollister. It's like bonus advertising on every item they sell. It also helps that the company has built up a reputation for being a high quality clothing store. This is represented in the logo.

TM Delia's Clothing

This is another logo that I find highly effective in its simplicity. The way that some letters are capitalized and some are not makes the brand seem more fun and makes the general outlook more interesting. The flower thing as the apostraphe makes the look girly and bright, which suits the style of the store's items and the consumers they are out to draw in. Over all, the logo is simple, but stylish with the right touch of personality that makes it theirs and draws attention to what the store is.

Graphic Design Blog Assignment #3

I chose this piece mostly because I've always liked the looked of old cars. I chose this color scheme, because cars can often be a sactuary for people. It's a good place to talk or think things through and can also be a getaway. Blue is often associated with relaxing, so I decided to go with this color scheme.
I think this image could be used as a decoration in a "man cave" or as part of an advertisement for a car dealership. Especially if this company was still around.

This design reminds me most of myself, because it's vibrant and abstract. I consider myself to be a happy, friendly person, and this design is definitely happy. I've also been told that I'm very random and kind of weird, so I thought this design showed that the best as well. I liked this one better than other brightly colored ones though because of its abstract and visually interesting layout. Basically, this one was just one of my favorites.

GD Assignment: Week 1

I'm not quite sure what to make of this piece of art as far as meaning goes, but I do find it very interesting. It made good use of black and white and colorful parts of the piece. It also had a very urban feel to it. The focus wasn't on the center which means it follows the rule of threes, but I cant say that I particularly liked it. I felt like it had too much empty space to the left. However, the combination of both real and unreal items made the piece look fun and bright.

What is graphic design?

Graphic design is using the help of technology to create art pieces. It's often used to make logos, posters, advertisements, t-shirts, book covers, and much more. It's most commonly used in advertising. To make a certain ad stand out more than the others, the designer creates a eye catching design to get reader's/viewer's attention.
What I like best about grapic design is that even though you may not be the best at drawing, you can still create excellent works of art based on what you want the design to look like. That way, things can always be what you imagine, and you don't have to worry as much about how they're going to turn out. If something isn't right, it can easily be changed. This is why graphic design is the best option for me. I can get my ideas as I see them out there.
